How To Choose a Domain

Your domain name will be the name of your website and will need to be something that is easily communicated to your customers. If you are a company just operating in the U.K. then a ‘.co.uk’ is your best option or a ‘.com’ if you would like to trade outside of the U.K.

If you can’t find a suitable ‘.co.uk’ or ‘.com’ domain then we also offer a wide range of other extensions.
  • Choose an easily memorable domain

  • Make sure it's not too long to type

  • It should reflect your company or your service

  • Try and match things people might search

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about our domains service

What is a domain?

A domain, or domain name, is the text that your customers use to access your website. It links to the actual address of the web server that your website is hosted on which is a string of numbers called an IP address.

Domains are usually made up of two parts; the Top-Level Domain (TLD) and the Second-Level Domain (SLD). The TLD, also sometimes refered to as the domain extension, is the last part of domain for example ‘.com’, ‘.net’ or ‘.co.uk’. The SLD is the part that you choose so for our website the SLD is ‘intrahost’.

Do I have to transfer my domains to use your hosting service?

No. If you want to take out a web hosting account with Intrahost to host existing domain names it is not necessary to transfer the domains and use Intrahost as their registrar.

Once you have a web host account with Intrahost you can simply go back to the domain registrar’s website, log into your domain name control panel and change the DNS records to point to the IP address of your Intrahost account.

Is there a limit to how many domains I can host on one account?

No, there is no limit on the number of domains you can host on your Intrahost web host account.

In practice, there is a limit to the disk space provided with each account and as each web site would take up more space eventually you would run out of space.

However, you can simply upgrade to a web hosting package offering more disk space when you need it.

Does Intrahost support bulk transfers?

Intrahost Partner Support can help facilitate a bulk transfer. Please send an e-mail to support@intrahost.co.uk for assistance.

When will my account be debited for a transfer request?

After you submit a transfer request, your account will be debited by the amount of the base registration price for the TLD you are attempting to transfer. This amount will be placed into a ‘pending’ balance. If the transfer is approved, the pending balance will be debited by the amount of the transfer. If the transfer is denied, the available registration fund will be credited and the pending balance will be credited.

Can I cancel a transfer request once it’s submitted to Intrahost?

No. Intrahost cannot cancel the request once it has been submitted. The Administrative Contact may cancel the transfer when they receive the authorisation request.

Can the registrant change the nameserver information during the registrar transfer process?

Yes. You can select new name servers when you place the order.

How long will a domain name transfer take to process?

The amount of time required to authorise a domain name transfer can vary significantly due to variations in the amount of time taken by the current registrant and current registrar to approve transfer requests. However, normally you should receive notification of a successful or unsuccessful transfer within 7 days.

How do I obtain the Authorisation Code for a .com, .co, .net, .biz, .info, .tv, .cc or .org transfer?

The Authorisation Code must be obtained from the current registrar of the domain name you wish to transfer. The registrar may have restrictions as to who may receive the Authorisation Code.

What are the restrictions on transferring domain names?

The domain name must have been registered for more than 60 days. Authorisation Codes are required for the transfer of .com, .co, .net, .biz, .info, .tv, .cc and .org domain names to Intrahost. The current Administrative Contact must confirm the transfer request from the e-mail account listed in the Administrative Contact’s WHOIS information. The current registrar must not deny the transfer request if it does not receive a response. The domain name must not be on a lock or hold status at the registry.
