Plesk

What is Plesk?

The Plesk Control Panel, is a comprehensive web-based interface which simplifies the management and administration of a web server. Due to the way in which it is able to automate a large number of tasks associated with running a web server, the Plesk Control Panel has made it easier for people of all skill levels to be able to run a web server.

To ensure maximum user compatibility, Plesk is available to run on both Windows or Linux server environments, however there can be some variation of functionality depending of what operating system, or variation of operating system. This is mainly due to the differences between the Windows and Linux web applications and supported programming languages.

With regards to managing the server, users are able to create and manage multiple admin accounts, users, domains or just simply email clients all from within a simple interface. The main server admin also has the ability to set up additional users, who have their own log in and access panel, making it ideal for allowing access to their customers too. This is dealt with on a heirachy basis, with four user variations; Plesk Admin, Reseller, Client and Mail User. Each user level offers a different type of access and use, which can be seen in the diagram below.

Plesk also comes pre configured with a huge range of applications, and addons that make running a server even simpler. Applications can be added and removed at the click of a button, and can range from monitoring tools such as AW Stats, forum application phpBB or even site development tools such as Joomla & Ruby on Rails. Additionally, Plesk allows for the simple integration of scripting languages, regardless of whether you are running on Windows or Linux.
